On the Rocky Mountaineer

On our recent Canada trip, we traveled from Banff to Vancouver on the Rocky Mountaineer train. One of the best train journeys we have ever taken. We started up in the mountains traveling down the valleys to Kamloops where the train stops and we stayed at a hotel overnight. Next day we jumped back onto the train which took us through arid land to Vancouver.

Strange Characters you meet in the Outback

On the way to El Questro station, (Ranch) we came across Klaus, a German traveller who converted an old van to be towed with his two camels, Willie and Snowy, and a nameless dog. Naturally, we stopped for a chat and gave him some oranges which he promptly fed to his camels.

Chamberlain Gorge

While staying at El Questro station, we got up very early and were driven to the Chamberlain Gorge, one of the highlights of the trip. The lady who guided us into the boat was hilarious. She pointed out the yellow safety vests under each seat and proceeded to tell us that crocodiles in the gorge are attracted to yellow, so she suggested in case we were sinking, to swim fasted than the last person. She also pointed out the fire extinguishers on board of this all-aluminium boat.

The views were spectacular and included fish that spit at insects to make them fall in the water so they can eat them. They also shot water up to pellets we were holding in our hands.

Flying over the Bungle Bungles

While staying at the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Resort, we took a helicopter ride over the Bungle Bungles, a fabulous experience.

From Broome we ventured north and visited Geikie Gorge
